Penang Second Bridge Opening - 1 March 2014




The long awaited Penang Second Bridge that also called "Jambatan Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah" finally opened for public use on 1st of March 2014. The opening ceremony was grand launching by our Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on the same day at 9.30pm with a series of around 10 minutes fireworks along the Penang Second Bridge.

This RM 4.5 billion bridge is a Federal government project and it is also the longest bridge in Southeast Asia region. Penang Second Bridge will be able to handle 100,000 vehicles daily and believe will reduce traffic congestion on the existing Penang Bridge by 25 percent.

The Penang Second Bridge links Batu Kawan on the mainland to Batu Maung on the Penang island. The bridge have total distance of 24 kilometers of which 17 kilometers is above the sea and 7 kilometers is over land.

With the opening of the Penang Second Bridge, residents of Penang believe it will bring in a better economy growth and further expand of tourism industry in Penang.
