Story: For most, Hollywood is the place where dreams come true, but for Xiao Ming (Huang Xiaoming), it’s about to turn into his worst nightmare. The love of his life, Yan Yan (Sarah Li), was only supposed to go to Los Angeles for a brief internship at a prestigious law firm, but the glamour of Hollywood has seduced her. Now, not only does she plan on staying in the United States to become a filmmaker, she no longer wants Xiao Ming in her life because he’s too rigid and lacks spontaneity. He plans for everything, down to the glasses he wears each day. So a devastated and drunken Xiao Ming realizes there is only one thing left to do: fly to Los Angeles and surprise Yan Yan with a proposal of marriage to win her back. It’s the biggest plan – and biggest gamble – of his life. Along the way, as the mayhem ratchets up, he unwillingly joins forces with fellow traveler Da Wei (Tong Dawei), a man-child who sees life through the lens of the movies, and reluctant travel guide, Wei Wei (Zhao Wei), a beautiful woman who is everything Xiao Ming is not. When the three inadvertently stumble upon an illegal import operation, they are forced to band together and go on the run from the authorities who believe them to be guilty. Not only that, but they are being ruthlessly pursued by Manny Love (Sung Kang), the angry ringleader of the very lucrative crime ring that our three heroes have thrown into jeopardy. The noose is tightening. But through it all, Xiao Ming is still determined to win Yan Yan back.
What ensues is part buddy road movie, part romantic comedy, part action film, part heist flick and 100% the adventure of their lives as our heroes fall down the bizarre rabbit hole of Hollywood where they will face everything from unstoppable hit men to post-Apocalyptic bikers to movie stars with dark secrets and even a Mandarin-speaking pig. A movie where real life and reel life collide to give birth to an epic cross-cultural adventure where anything is possible because this, after all, is Hollywood.
